LSE in Technology Deal with Tokyo

The Guardian reports today that The London Stock Exchange has struck an alliance with its counterpart in Tokyo, The Tokyo Stock Exchange, to share technology information and possibly develop new products together. Full article here.

Under the co-operation agreement with the Tokyo Stock Exchange, a joint task force will shortly begin a series of meetings to consider areas in which the two exchanges will work together.

A statement issued by LSE says this is the first time the two exchanges have agreed to work together, and it is expected that the co-operation will bring benefits for investors, issuers and member firms.

What next for the LSE?

Lots of coverage in the press about Nasdaq's failed bid for the LSE. Bloomberg covers it saying that Clara Furse is under pressure to increase earnings and the stock price. Also, they say Project Turquoise is a very real threat. The Independent states that the LSE will pursue talks aimed at a tie-up with the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The headline in The Guardian is that the LSE should stay British. The FT reports that January's trading update for the LSE saw the value of UK equities traded up 22% on the same period last year.
